Among Panamanians the Boquete area has long been a favorite vacation and second-home destination.
The appeal of this mountain town, nestled in a valley at the foot of the Barú Volcano, has gained it international recognition. Boquete was recently recognized by the AARP’s (American Association of Retired Persons) Modern Maturity Magazine as the fourth best place in the world to retire. Now YOU can take pleasure in the wonders Boquete has to offer, enjoying all the comforts, and without sacrificing any of the town’s natural beauty.
To the North, Boquete borders with the communities of Bocas del Toro and Chiriquí Grande, located in the Province of Bocas del Toro. To the East, its neighbor is the District of Gualaca, to the South, Dolega and David are located, and to the West we find Bugaba. This fresh and fertile valley encompasses the communities of Bajo Boquete, Caldera, and Palmira.
The District of Boquete has a surface area of 514 square kilometers (319 square miles), with a population of approximately 15,500 inhabitants and is located at an elevation of 1600 meters (5250 feet) above sea level. Its altitude ranges from 800 to 3000 meters (2625 feet to 9843 feet) in its northern end, and from 300 meters (984 feet) to 800 (2625 feet) meters in its southern end. The area enjoys an average year-round temperature of 20°C (68°F). Its distance from the city of Panama is 480 kilometers and from the city of David it is approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) which in the case of the latter, translates into a car ride of approximately 30 minutes.
By plane the trip takes about 50 minutes departing from Albrook Airport in Panama City with 3 daily flights leaving in the morning, at noon, and in the afternoon.
In respect of bus transportation from David to Panama City there are two options: the express bus, which takes five and a half hours, or the regular bus which takes six and a half hours.
It has been announced that very soon international airlines and Copa Airlines will be offering direct flights from the United States of America to David!!
